“The most powerful media executive in America has now resigned in the wake of the #MeToo movement”, said “CBS This Morning” anchor Norah O’Donnell on Monday.
How are Socialists supposed to justify opposition to #metoo if it is bringing down “the most powerful executive” in the media? It is about more than identity politics, as some of the victims are men like Brendan Fraser or Kevin Spacey’s victims, and it does not represent fascism or anti-democratic policies, but workplace security and democratic protection against the intimidation of free speech through perverted assault.
The perverse nature of the assault speaks to the weakness of American capitalism and corporatism, rather than its strength. The corporatism of the media should be fought in its perverted manifestations before they suddenly awaken to their weakness and try to restore their strength through massive atrocities against the socialist labor movement. Workplace Equality Committees should be created in every workplace to protect employees from management violence and offer equality and democratic rights to workers within the economy.
