Comment on car culture

Prices in constant dollars of cars have risen since 1962, when they were around $3,200.

The cost in man hours of building a car in a modern plant is about 15. 15*30=450 for labor, 500-1250 for steel, and 500 more for glass, seats, etc. 500 for delivery and storage. $2000-$3000 a car. The average price is $35,000. The most affordable new cars are around $10,000.

Outside the U.S., about 14% (very high estimate) own cars (including commercial). If you include the U.S., roughly 17% own (also very high estimate, assuming every vehicle is owned by different driver. In reality, the rates should be estimated at 10% and 12%.

This means that Ford’s promise to provide cars to the majority of workers has failed. The attempt to guarantee cars to the entire working population in the U.S. also failed. Significant numbers remain without private transportation.

This proves that car culture bases itself, not on the promise of universal ownership, but on a plan to divide the world’s working class based on “cultural differences”. In fact, they create inflated prices in one region when affordable prices worldwide could easily be produced by a planned, price controlled industry.
