In its peace treaty with government, FARC did not negotiate for General positions in the military and police. While they negotiated temporary positions in the national assembly, their representatives were denigrated by the other parties, while right-wing paramilitaries continue to kill them and their families.

As Trotsky argued, a guerilla force can never substitute for a revolutionary army. The guerillas should have negotiated for positions in the armed forces, where they could then argue for a revolutionary transformation of the military.
