Gantz, a former military chief, bases himself on the military, and moves to prosecute and jail Netanyahu and his wife. In February of 1917, Kornilov arrested the Tsarina, or Alexandra Feodorovna, Empress consort of Russia. Netanyahu faces bribery charges, for which he has yet to be indicted. His wife, however has been charged for corruption. While accusations of treason will not rise to the surface without a revolution and a revolutionary party to speak for it, these corruption and bribery charges represent an inverted and refracted version of the revolutionary charges against Netanyahu. Like the Tsar, Netanyahu’s power rests upon the fuedal hierarchy of the ultra-orthodox.

The conclusion to draw should be just like Lenin’s: “complete distrust” of the new government. Kornilov sought to continue Russia’s participation in WWI, and Gantz will want to continue the expansionist policies of Netanyahu, as these were the demands of the financial interests and the big bourgeoisie. Kornilov’s arrest of the Tsarina did not prove his complete break from class-based oppression, including the use of anti-Semitism and nationalism. Gantz will not break from anti-Arab racism, prefering to restructure Likud rather than ally his government with the coalition of Arab parties, the Joint List.

His opposition to the Joint List mirrors Kornilov’s fascistic appeals to Russian nationalism to push forward another Russian military offensive against the German. Millions of lives had been sacrificed along with untold economic losses due to their failure to cooperate, trade, and allow the free and secure flow of labor and goods. All this for the ancient rites of Tsars and the Orthodox Church that formed the basis of his rule.
