Although the quarantine is still in its first few weeks, protests against stay-at-home orders have already come to a state capital.  The arbitrary and indefinite emergency orders recall the rise of Hitler to power through the Wiemar Republic, initiating the Third Reich, one of the worst dictatorships of the 20th century.  The government has already proven incapable of setting limits on its own dictatorial powers.  The lifting of stay-at-home orders by the far right would not return us to democratic forms of rule but lead to further infringement on individual liberties under the guise of combating the virus.  Only a workers’ revolution against the two-party dictatorship would establish fair and responsible rules to end the pandemic while preserving the democratic rights of the people.  The tradition of the defense of those rights in the U.S. will only make the revolution that much more powerful in its new home.
