This supports exactly my position on the pandemic’s effect on the economy. The WSWS continues to argue that returning to work will bring about economic recovery. In fact, it will have the opposite effect, the intended effect. Capitalism must destroy accumulated capital and fight against any upsurge if resistance. The virus breaks up protests effectively while killing hundreds of thousands of people, more than died during the Vietnam War. Eventually, this figure will surpass the Civil War as well. When will the WSWS reverse its position, in line with the facts? There is no balance between safety measures and economic recovery, both work in tandem to restore society’s balance. If Capitalism fails in this task, socialism must step in with clear sight.
