Raniere instructed his followers to solicit the assistance of Alan Dershowitz, the attorney who successfully negotiated a non-prosecution agreement of Jeffrey Epstein.^[189] Raniere gave false names of people he was allegedly calling to prison officials, and call recipients employed “burner phones” in an attempt to avoid detection. In one instance, Raniere instructed a follower to “get scrutiny” on the judge in his case, explaining that “the judge needs to know he’s being watched”.^[190]

The demand, addressing five individual prosecutors by name, threatens “provocative public actions that bring hidden transgressions to light and send a message to judges, prosecutors, and federal agents that they answer to us.”^[191][192] Simultaneously, a team of 10 individuals descended on the U.S. attorney’s office to deliver the demand in person; at that same time, another individual attempted to deliver a package to a former Raniere prosecutor at her law firm.^[193]“
