“Healy was Cannon’s ‘man’ in England and had been consistently supported by the SWP in disputes within the RCP.”
P. 11
This trivialization of professional connections serves as an attempt to decay the bonds of trust that build the party. Trotsky trusted Cannon to lead the SWP in the United States, while Cannon trusted Healy with the task in Great Britain. This vouching between professionals allows for a transfer of the respect earned by Trotsky through his leadership during the Russian Revolution and early years of the Soviet Union, the top general of the first workers’ state, member of the Executive Committee of the Soviet State, and close associate of Lenin, the first head of state and leader of the Bolsheviks. That Trotsky trusted Cannon and Cannon trusted Healy should mean a great deal to anyone interested in the outcome of a future revolution.
