The WSWS argument has imploded, leaving behind a horrendous crater where their argument used to stand. The lie that the Democratic Party and the NY Times invented #MeToo can now only serve as a reminder that the WSWS has lost its ability to think about much less act within the situation. First, Lisa Borders quit as President and CEO in 2019 after her own son allegedly participated in sexual misconduct. Roberta Kaplan then resigned as Chair of the Time’s Up organization a few weeks ago, and now Tina Tchen, the President and CEO, has also resigned, revealing once again that the capitalist class can neither suppress nor lead mass political organizations.
They must subjugate all causes to the covering up of their own economic and political crises, causing them to fail as leaders of any significant group. Only the working class can lead relevant and pressing political causes, as it is the revolutionary class, the only class that benefits from freedom of association and political democracy. The tremendous bravery of the victims of the capitalist predators allowed for their public exposure, leading to real prosecutions, arrests, and prison time. This created irreversible damage for the political establishment, leading to their quick, public decline.
The attempts of the WSWS to excuse the actions of the capitalist state and its media representatives, the Andrew and Chris (and Mario) Cuomos of the capitalist establishment, have completely collapsed, and their efforts on behalf of the ruling class have proven fruitless. The only path remaining for the defenders of the democratic rights created by the revolution of 1776 is to remove forcefully the capitalist class as leaders in every major political organization and replace them with the representatives of the working class. Only the working class can handle the responsibilities of leadership without descending into corruption, nepotism, and a combination of emotional fragility and shamelessness in the use of the most short-sighted tactics. This means Democratic Power must organize openly, like the rank and file of #MeToo, to publicly shame and remove from office the leaders of the ICFI and replace them with representatives of the working class.
