As Buzzfeed merges with a wall street acquisition firm, its news staff walked out after two years of negotiations over a contract. The same process will occur at WSWS. As workers seek to improve their positions, the capitalist class will merge with centers of opposition. The Nanobureaucracy will receive a big boost from Wall Street or the mass media and the workers will see their publication abandon basic principles in journalism and politics. This will appear as a top-down transformation combined with an improved executive contract for the bureaucracy. Only the resolutions proposed by Democratic Power, enabling factional democracy and membership control over the party and news website can offer an alternative to bureaucratization under the influence of capitalist acquisition.
Buzzfeed, based on pop culture, has no hope within the current economic system and its talent in the newsroom will be stomped on like so many slaves. They must unite their struggle with journalists everywhere and workers struggling for fair contracts in every industry. The declining life expectancy and birth rates should show that only a revolution can grant them such fair contracts.
The WSWS merger with Peter Daszak to suppress scientific evidence, and the WSWS merger with Harvey Weinstein and Andrew Cuomo to suppress evidence in sexual harassment disputes will lead to an uprising in the ranks of the WSWS staff, similar to that of Buzzfeed. Democratic Power must prepare as an organization to provide an alternative to Nanobureaucratic suppression of workers’ democracy.
