While hiding the full extent of the “conspiracy theorist” witch-hunt against a significant percentage of scientists, the WSWS has admitted the existence of a witch-hunt. The WSWS must draw the logical conclusions and break from the conflict-of-interest corruption of Daszak and Andersen. The case of Lucas Ferrante corroborates the claims of Alina Chan, that direct threats arose from the “race-traitor” argument supported by the WSWS against Asian scientists. Alina Chan is not a “race traitor” or a “conspiracy theorist” as the WSWS has claimed. She simply defends the rights of scientists to investigate and present evidence of varying viewpoints, including viewpoints critical of the government. The WSWS joining in on the war on science has harmed scientists like Lucas Ferrante, whose oppression they have rightly exposed. The WSWS must accept responsibility for its support for Daszak and apologize to the scientists they have endangered through hateful, demagogic rhetoric.

To the extent that a scientist can gain too much influence within the party, we must answer them with a defense of Marxist philosophy. We see this best exemplified in Lenin’s Empiro-Criticism, a reply to Ernst Mach the famous physicist and Bogdanov, his defender in the party. While Mach challenged materialism of Marx, Daszak challenges the ethical foundations of Marxism and science in general. Daszak follows a modern Malthusianism, believing that overpopulation by human beings threatens the planet, justifying the deaths of a significant proportion of the population through disease, shortages, and war. This philosophy, Marx considered a slander on mankind. He would answer, and so should the party, that a moral solution exists within the socialist management of the world’s resources. We cannot accept their hoarding by a select few oligarchs and their social networks, or more precisely their extremely corrupt hoarding mafias.
