As Democratic Power has argued, the one good thing to come out of the Ukraine War was the sanctions against Russian oligarchs. The sanctions should actually include all NATO oligarchs as well, and furthermore they should confiscate the wealth of the oligarchs, rather than simply freeze their assets, and redistribute it back to the Russian working class.

A new development, however, has shown that Russia too may need to rely on socialist tactics to resolve the capitalist crisis. This brings us closer to adapting a socialist strategy, which will also require socialist leadership only available through the Fourth International. Russia has considered nationalizing all the companies that have withdrawn from Russia as a result of the war. This would bring a lot of private property back to public ownership, showing the necessity of nationalizations as part of a rationally planned and socially controlled economy.

Democratic Power encourages these nationalizations as favorable to the working class in general. These result, however, from an unconscious, unprincipled approach to socialist policies. In order to save these state enterprises from failure engineered from the top by the Russian oligarchy, these state enterprises must come under control of the workers through their own elected workplace equality committees. These would allow for a socially responsible management of these enterprises in the best interests of the working class. Only a revolutionary party dedicated to this purpose can accomplish such a change. For this reason the Fourth International and the Democratic Power Faction must gain influence over the mass movement in order to prepare a leadership that could take and hold these positions, both in Russia and throughout the world.
