The organization of the first Amazon Labor Union in Staten Island, NY shows that a socialist movement can come to power in the United States. The bravery of Shuvu Batta to stand up for the working class against the Nanobureaucracy deserves to be remembered as the precursor to the present victory. The current leader of the ALU, Chris Smalls, has shown serious theoretical weakness with regard to the attitude of the movement towards the Democratic Party. In order for workers to really rise in their own interests, they will need leaders like Batta to explain the theoretical problems of connecting unions, parties, and factions, as well as the importance of workers’ committees and a new workers’ state. He could participate in the construction of a faction within the ALU, allied to Democratic Power. We call on all workers, students, and activists to contact Shuvu Batta and Peter Ross, who also participated with Batta, and pass this message on to them. They should contact Democratic Power as soon as possible to begin a campaign for a faction within both the ALU and the SEP based on the Democratic Power Faction!
