A vote for Gustav Petro is a protest vote to show the leaders of the country that people want change, especially coming after the recent national strike demonstrations against President Ivan Duque that brought 15 million people to the streets. Even if Gustav Petro like Hugo Chavez and Pedro Castillo will betray his voters by never enacting any revolutionary programs or significantly redistributing wealth, his winning the presidency would reveal a fake socialist, a part of the aristocracy, the bourgeoisie, the ruling class, controlling the socialist movement. He would make a deal with the international banks, the IMF, and ignore the people. He could also use the military to attack striking workers as “Socialist” Pedro Castillo of Peru has done. The South American Republic is haunted by the idea of the Caudillo, he that rules on behalf of Spain or the US, through undemocratic means. We sense that we must believe these are socialists or we believe we must keep our beliefs secret. Still we naturally converse and our ideas get out. So when they enter into power, that tells us the secret will be revealed and the time will come to construct a real socialist movement on the soundest of foundations. This will require that those who understand Marxist theory rise up to the task of constructing a Marxist Party to take the power on behalf of the international working class and in partnership with the Fourth International as the world party of the world revolution against capitalism.
