By switching over to a gold-backed system, Eastern Imperialism or the BRICS countries have not created a solution for global inequality or transfered any wealth from the US to the rest of the world. They have created a system by which they will interrupt trade in order to increase their governments’ gold reserves at the expense of the majority of the world’s people. The system they create will lack sufficient gold reserves as they now lack sufficient dollar reserves. They will cut back on currency circulation or economic activity in order to insure that a greater portion of the profits end up in the accounts of their own super-rich ruling class. They will use their gold reserves to back loans to their own corporations to compete for exploitative contracts with American corporations, leading to further oppression of labor and destruction of the environment.
In the past, the US could prevent this outbreak of inter-imperialist conflict by punishing governments and movements who sought to profit at the expense of US corporations. Now the US can simply change policies towards a Scorched Earth destruction of its empire, while focusing more of its production within US borders. This will allow it to raise corporate profits through the use of shortages that it blames on its competitors.
Rational economic theory points to the necessity of a world currency, and in that the dollar has failed. It will remain a strong part of US diplomacy as it forces its allies to war and creates conflicts between competitors. If, as the priests of capitalist economics insist, capitalism sought to increase production rather than create fetters, as Marxism argues, then a world currency could easily replace the dollar and provide stability for increased trade and global production. The new currency will not serve as a global currency, however, but as a means of organizing a new empire that threatens trade wherever it works to increase the reserves of its competitors. A more heated competition between empires will quickly lead to world war, which has already begun with regard to trade and with regard to the open fighting between Russia amd NATO.
A world war is the worst and most primitive way of turning back the accomplishments of popular, democratic movements over the oast century. It will burn through trillions of dollars and tens of millions of lives in record time. The only alternative will come from a conscious socialist leadership forming and taking aim at their own nations’ capital as part of an organized world revolution. Pacifists and moralists like Chris Hedges and Roger Waters will tell us that an armed insurrection or a focused, economic offensive against one’s own government should be replaced by appeals to that imperialist government or by judging Israel alone for its breaches of international law. Both peace and international law can only exist as a product of a real war against the capitalist class that not only funds these divisions but also preys on the lower class to subdue revolutionary politics.
The #Democratic_Power_Faction has steadily gained a wider audience through a sustained campaign against Nanobureaucracy, the organizational expression of bourgeois ideology carrying out incursions into the revolutionary party. In the coming year, the intensifying economic crisis will force workers into conflict with their employers, the state that defends the employers, and the Nanobureaucracy that defends the state from within the revolutionary movement. This will bring about a transformation in the power relations between the revolutionary dedicated to Marxist principles and the careerist who only uses Marxist theory to stay one step ahead of the oppressed class.
When this happens, the conditions can then form for the establishment of a Workers’ State, the organization of an international economy, and the foundation of an international workers’ bank to circulate a currency recognized everywhere and dedicated to protecting the purchasing power and the full employment of the international working class. This will depend on the activation of minds, writers, and organizers within and around the Fourth International, who will then turn the working class and away from the ruling class media structure.
Elements from there will approach the revolutionary movement, but they must be trained like animals to follow as they would train us with deceitful promises and attacks without warnings. We need to inform them so that they can follow us, who defended the workers’ interests from the beginning, so they can contribute to our cause and spend on our efforts without any expectations of high political office in return. Only the development of Marxism through the struggle for an organized revolutionary movement internationally can lead to political success under a revolutionary government and within the revolutionary party. Their attempts to create allies within Eastern Imperialism only serve as a threat to genuine revolutionary politics that must always base themselves on an appeal to the working class as the real force driving forward the world revolution.
