These are concessions to the people to make the Republic more responsive to their priorities, like #M4A. We welcome these proposals as a means to begin to address past wrongs. If incumbents lose their seats, insurgent candidates can replace them. However, given the hegemonic, ever-present corporate agenda, those new seats could easily go to the far right, making possible a new #J6 earlier than expected.

“Khanna laid out a five-point program:

1. Ban money from lobbyists and political actions committees to congressional candidates

2. Ban members of Congress from trading stocks and from ever becoming lobbyists

3. Term limits for members of Congress

4. Term limits for Supreme Court justices

5. An ethics code for Supreme Court justices”

None of these points address the central argument that neither Republicans nor Democrats should have the power in Congress. The only way to concede to that argument is through ranked-choice voting and the right for legitimate candidates to debate other candidates at the very minimum and, as a maximum, an outright ban of the two parties of the duopoly and all the lobbies they associate with.

“Gaetz’s unprecedented ouster of a speaker has produced a rare moment in Washington, in which nobody can truly be certain how it ends.”

If the House had a Speaker we would want them arrested. Perhaps no one wants the job, which comes with the responsibility to commit crimes in public. We want Congress as a whole replaced by a more competent and a truly socialist leadership.

“Let the Republicans kill the reforms that poll at 90 percent. And, if by cynically supporting these ideas in hopes of making Republicans look bad, Democrats accidentally turn them into law, oh well. We won’t tell anybody they never meant it to happen.”

This kind of planned accident, a bluff with no hand, would make fools of the entire Democratic Party. As if they do not control their own actions. In order to change direction, they need to be spurred, so to say. We believe the direction should come from them as individual leaders and as organized groups. Responsibility rests with them. If they accept responsibility, perhaps we can have a new Congress.
