I do not see anything here that proves Cornel West does not support the Palestinian resistance. Still, I took the liberty of replying to this video. His method of argument is unethical because he criticizes the Oct. 7 attacks without reference to the larger context of imperialist manipulation of the leadership of the oppressed. Each person has to acknowledge, control, and criticize their own sins before they expect the same from others. The same is true in politics, but then again, these compromises over ethics and philosophy are inevitable, especially when dealing with the oligarchs and their right hands.
Trotskyists and Trotsky himself are not like Cassandra. The #Nanobureaucracy and the reaction are not like the angry Apollo. @ComptonMadeMe proves that point by showing black nationalists can in fact heed the warning of Trotskyists. No more “half-measures!”
We should repeat again, the ICFI and SEP US need a Black Nationalist faction to politically force its way in and hold the territory. The WSWS may do some things well, but we have to see them with their limitations in mind. The limits set by them on politics confine revolutionaries to a much smaller space than what is necessary to defeat capitalism. The WSWS has erased an important part of Marxism from its own website, which I can show in the pictures below.
Black Nationalists need to draw not only on the arguments of the WSWS in the current moment but also from the theoretical arguments that form the foundation for the wider movement that created the WSWS in the first place. Above all, we have the Marxist dialectic, which would tell us the discussions between two opposed organizations, by political-economic law, actually form a new third organization. All the erased discussions, inadvertently or not, actually proved the existence of a new, larger Political Marxist movement. We should give credit to those we opposed in the past to arrive where we are now.
And to Cornel West’s credit, he did mention CLR James, who argued correctly for a protected space (not in those words) for black people within revolutionary politics. That means the black revolutionary, organized independently, should see their acts as determining factors in the victory or failure of the US and world revolution. This makes sense because of their relationship with the US empire, paralleled, as Marx said, by the Irish relationship with the British empire. It also makes sense from the standpoint of the history of the Russian Revolution, where the Bund took the side of the Bolsheviks, giving them a majority within the larger Socialist Party. (RSDLP) Finally, it makes sense because it removes all ostensibly self-imposed limits on the intellectual capacity of the revolutionary to rise to the level of a Marx or a Lenin.
You would think that the 2007-2008 financial crisis would radicalize more people and bring them to the website. Instead, readership totally collapsed, as illustrated in the graph below. This proves that the WSWS has a hidden internal mechanism designed to sabotage the revolution at the worst possible time. This took the form of removing the Polemics section from the website, effectively building a Gaza-like genocide wall between the revolutionary party and the wider movement.
Since October 22, 2008, and you can see that from the “Perspectives” of today’s website, nothing exists of the former section. This nihilist warfare against Marxist theory and organization actually began before 2008 through a division of the Polemics section itself. We should see the two sides as: Academic Marxism and Political Marxism. Since the Fourth International is a political organization by definition, we should side with the political and work as much as possible to eliminate the academic, which uses its lack of ethics in argument to absorb all the energy of the revolutionary. Lenin and Trotsky had to do the same, only responding to trends in academia when members of the Bolshevik Party came under their influence. Then, it is the particular Bolshevik Lenin attacked, rather than an academic who clearly owes nothing to the party. The aversion to academia also ran as a common thread through to movements in art.
The only mention of the missing Polemics section attempts to explain away the problem by making this false claim:
“The second column also provides additional space for videos and other media, as well as arts reviews, philosophical and historical analyses, polemics, and other material.”
In fact, as you can see from the Perspectives section of today’s website, the WSWS has replaced that wealth of information with a printout of the completely chaotic thoughts of the “absent-minded professor” to which North turned, or turned into, when he abandoned the working class. The lack of any developed structure to the Perspectives also resembles very much the campaign and the person of Cornel West. Each is the real-life caricature of the other, and in case anyone did not catch the joke, the daughter of celebrity rapper Kanye West has now taken power over the headlines while the two lunatics turn on their own crowd and the revolution in general.
