Netanyahu’s presence at the top of Israel’s political system is not a purely Israeli phenomenon. The entire world bares some responsibility, but Israel can unite to remove him from power. The General Strike should not last just one day but until the government gives in and Netanyahu resigns and goes to prison to await his trial. This is not merely a problem with tactics, and we know from experience that a national committee based on reformism and trade unionism can restore bourgeois rule and imperialist violence to its original level. The intolerance demonstrated towards this argument further proves that a Fourth International based on Israeli intelectuales and workers must rise to the leadership of the strike movement to confront not only Netanyahu but his imperialist backers and his undemocratically organized and led middle-class fascist base. It must sign an agreement with all regional forces to end support for the present government and replace it with a revolutionary socialist alternative explicitly rejecting colonialism and colonialist Zionism as designed from its inception by the British in the Balfour Declaration and by other imperialist powers.
